Tobacco Caye Day One

We left the mainland area of the Belize zoo and headed to to the coastal city of Dangrig. The drive took around two hours and was around  60miles.  Much of this time was spent snoozing.

Once at Dangriga we were able pick up necessities like oreo's and iced tea :) we headed from Dangriga to tobacco caye (40 minute speed boat ride). The island of tobacco caye is roughly 5 acres with a brightly colored small cabins sourrounding it.

Our cabins are roughly 50ft of beach away from the ocean.  Once we got settled, we gathered our snorkel gear for an orientation lesson.  We ,learned how leave no trace on the reef, clear our our masks underwater, and swim efficiently.

We took off snorkeling with our guide Jenn into the waters adjacent to tobacco caye.  The water was teaming with fish!  Many different kinds of damselfish, tangs, snappers, wrasse, gobies and many more.  We oriented ourselves with snorkeling for the next three hours until dinner.

Dinner consisted of fish, salad, rice, beans, and chocolate cake.

We now ( this evening) are learning about the Belize marine ecosystems while recovering from our food comas :)
